Prephysician Assistant students are encouraged to select a major in which they feel they will excel. PrePA students can choose a major in either the science or nonscience disciplines. What is a Physician Assistant?
Physician assistants (PAs) practice medicine with supervision of licensed physicians. PAs are qualified to take histories, order and administer tests, make the diagnoses, determine treatments, assist in surgery, and set fractures. A physician assistant is educated to provide services that would otherwise be offered by a physician. In many states, PAs write prescriptions. They work in virtually all health care settings wherever physicians or health care organizations employ them.
