Rural Health Equity Research Collaborative (R-HERC)
Mission
R-HERC is an undergraduate-run lab dedicated to creating educational interventions to help alleviate rural healthcare worker shortages.
Current Interventions
Directed by Dr. Rich Sanker and Isabel Perez-Sandi (with the input and support of Alex Crego).
Realistic Healthcare Experiences
Partnering with medically underserved communities, R-HERC introduces middle school-aged students to healthcare careers through interactive presentations.
Academic Achievement
Partnering with medically underserved communities, R-HERC conducts remedial and concurrent Algebra 1 tutoring sessions with 9th graders.
Lab Structure
In each intervention two TAs and 10 undergraduate researchers develop and oversee the research projects. The entire research team earns PHP V9R credit for their efforts.
Interested in joining R-HERC's research team? Applications are due 4/30. After initial application review applicants will be notified for interviews. Accepted applicants will be notified by 6/14.

Scholarship
R-HERC scholars help lead the research group and start special programs necessary for R-HERC's sustained growth. The Director of R-HERC and two scholars each receive a scholarship of $2,000. Applications to become a scholar are held internally.
Volunteer
Interested in serving medically underserved populations? Join one or both of R-HERC's projects as a volunteer. Volunteers earn service hours by helping to administer interventions (tutoring or presenting). Volunteers receive semesterly certificates for their logged hours. Email isabel_perezsandi1@baylor.edu
