Tropical Disease Research Internship Program (TDRIP)

Baylor College of Medicine - National School of Tropical Medicine in collaboration with Baylor University's Prehealth Program has developed a Tropical Disease Research Internship Program during the summer to provide five undergraduate students who plan a career in global healthcare the opportunity to spend 9 weeks of their summer working with leaders in tropical disease research. The BU-TDRIP summer interns will be selected through a competitive application process coordinated with BU's Director of Prehealth Programs and the BCM-NSTM Laboratory & Compliance Manager.

BCM-NSTM

To learn more about their mission and development process please use the link below.

NSTM MISSION

The BU-TDRIP interns will gain an understanding of neglected tropical and emerging infectious diseases, experience the development of vaccine target antigens from bench to clinic settings, and learn about translational public policy for the improvement of global health, including application of current research in local communities.

BU-TDRIP

The BU-TDRIP will link the student interns with one of the BCM-NSTM research labs which will provide the interns' with a hands-on research experience in global healthcare. Additionally, the interns will be supervised and evaluated by the program's Laboratory & Compliance Manager. Through this relationship the intern will have the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of global healthcare and tropical disease research through direct observation of experienced researchers and mentor meetings. Coordination of the BU-DTRIP will be provided by the Laboratory & Compliance Manager at BCM-NSTM alongside with personnel within Baylor University's Office of Prehealth Studies. Through this position, each summer intern will be supervised in the assessment of a clinical or research problem and concept development and problem-solving for the problem. The intern will present a final paper and PowerPoint presentation describing the work on this project to the supervising facility coordinator and to the director of the Baylor's Prehealth Programs at the end of the summer.
